Dying Romance

Do we still have true romance in this part of the world? Like seriously, do we still even bother? Sights of quasi romance played out in raunchy beer parlours and 'Ugwa and Isi Ewu' joints all over the place have taken the shine off the once adorned 'Spiritual Romance' our forebears treasured with every fibre of their temporal being.

“And in her smile I see something more beautiful than the stars.”

––Across the Universe by Beth Revis
Do we even use such poetic words to describe the love of our life anymore?
Do we even so much as try? Sometimes I shudder at the vain materialism that has taken over a once revered essence - TRUE LOVE.

“I wanted to tell you that wherever I am, whatever happens, I’ll always think of you, and the time we spent together, as my happiest time. I’d do it all over again, if I had the choice. No regrets.”

––Boundless by Cynthia Hand
These types of beautiful words above give me the goose pimples each time I come across them. I could only imagine the spiritual love impact they would have on the one at the receiving end of such timeless words.
I can only imagine how elevated his or her spirit will be or how much love sparkles such words will ignite in his or her eyes.

All is not altogether lost though. But time is fast ticking away to the point where true romance and love becomes real only in myths and legends, dying in the far recess of our imagination, and finally lost in the bosom of oblivion.

“If my love were an ocean,
there would be no more land.
If my love were a desert,
you would see only sand.
If my love were a star-
late at night, only light.
And if my love could grow wings,
I’d be soaring in flight.”

––Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
