5 Simple Ways To Find Lasting Peace

“Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek but a means by which we arrive at that goal.”
                                                                                                - Martin Luther King, Jr

T
he school of life is a crucible every person must pass through.  The lessons you encounter cannot be found or taught in any other classrooms through your pilgrimage in this world
. You spend a great deal of your time learning Mathematics, Science, Philosophy and Logic, and the Creative Arts, but little do they teach you the simple day to day living skills you need to get by successfully in this world, like say when a neighbour calls you a stupid person or when adversity forces you to lose your home and all your life’s savings or even when a lover breaks your heart or a friend betrays your trust. Conventional classrooms and subject matter teach formulas and equations and languages and artistic realities, but what about people skills and living philosophies?

The failure of religion today stems from this fact: We no longer train our spiritual selves for the battles and challenges of living, but concentrate on divine solutions to our everyday real life problems – problems which with a little insight and good judgement through wisdom and careful meditation (plus prayer in the mix), could have been easily solved ourselves without constantly falling prey to people who use such gullibility and spiritual weakness to make a fortune for themselves (you know pretty well who am talking about).

Thus, to find peace we are often swayed by irrelevant doctrines and propaganda when all we needed to do is improve ourselves – both outward and inward (especially). There are simple things we need to do to improve and be better – to find that much sought after inner and outward peace. These things are life’s ways we need to practice every day. And they are things YOU can do.

They include:

1.      Only expect to reap what you sow. Life has been programmed that way. Give only what you expect to receive in return. If you don’t want it upon yourself, don’t wish it upon another. Work hard for your daily bread, and it will work hard to find your table and grace your store.

2.      Have the patience of a farmer. Don’t be in a perpetual hurry. Be patient. Work at what you desire, but desire it with a patient conviction it will come to pass. Nurture it with love and understanding. Force it and you ruin it. There is a reason everything happens in its time.

3.      Train yourself to be calm through regular meditation and silent prayer. Find quiet time in your day to make quietly eloquent your way. Tune in to the energy of silence and the silence of the universe will pace your path to greatness. Commune with your inner being daily; forget the pains of the plot. You’re already destined the star of the cast. Don’t ruin your glory with the pain of the past. Let the still of life fill you with the meals to teach your soul to cope with strife. You’d be fine.

4.      Look for the good in people and in situations. Every sorrow we’re made to face and the tears that lace our cheek from the hurt caused by another are pointers of our divine heritage, for even the gods also cry. Hate not the doer of the deed. But see the deed itself as a necessary training to prepare you for what lies ahead in the battlefield of life. They may be a necessary evil, but someone had to be used in passing on the lesson. Do not judge why they were chosen. You may never comprehend it.

5.      Do not be afraid to make mistakes. Be easy on yourself. Teach yourself to not take things too seriously. Allow yourself the occasional failings on your part but DO NOT accept failure. Every failed attempt is one less way to go about it and one step closer to success. Do not see a cup half empty but one half full. When you break a hand remember to still have a spare. When life shuts you out, take a walk in the wilderness of fresh beginning and come right back again. He was probably too tired or asleep the first time you knocked.
